This weekend will be the end of races for 2022, and with that it’s a perfect time to wrap up Stride for Stride’s year in numbers;
Team Stride for Stride grew from 111 to 232 runners in 2022 - we were only 35 runners at the end of 2020.
Team Stride for Stride ran 154 distinct races in 2022 for a total of 6,830 miles - and that doesn’t include the thousands of training miles.
Stride for Stride spent $43,880 on race bibs in 2022 - double 2021 numbers ($22,740) and up significantly from 2020 ($3,150) and 2019 ($6,260).
Our 232 runners represent 22 countries; Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Taiwan, Morocco and the United States.
Boston, New York City and Miami are our biggest cities.
Team Stride for Stride ran four World Marathon Majors in 2022; the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Berlin Marathon, and the NYC Marathon.
Stride for Stride is now a charity partner with the NYC Marathon, the NYC Half-Marathon, and the Falmouth Road Race.
Eduardo was featured in a Boston Globe Documentary
And, the team was featured in Runner’s World UK.
2022 was an incredible year for Stride for Stride, and we project 400 total runners by the end of 2023, 10,000 total race miles, and bib costs approaching $80,000.
As you can see, races are very expensive, and that’s why Stride for Stride exists - to give low-income runners the opportunity to compete with everyone else. The NYC Marathon costs $295/bib, the Cambridge Half was $125, and the upcoming Miami Marathon in January is over $200.
Running is more than just running - it’s about hope, belonging, empowerment, being seen and pure joy. As long as you can get to the starting line you have a chance at winning the race - it doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor. That’s empowering!
Please consider a donation to Stride for Stride so we can continue to make dreams and amazing goals happen.
And, if you’re in the City of Boston on Saturday (Dec 10) please join us at Tracksmith to meet the team and hear their stories. If you want to run we’re starting a 5-mile loop around the Charles River at 8:30am. No need to run if you don’t want to - the panel starts around 10am. We hope to see you there.
