Mental Health in Stride
Stride for Stride is launching Mental Health in Stride to provide free mental health therapy for anyone on the Team who needs it.
Running is therapy. Running is not only good for one's physical health, but it's also good for one's mental health.
Hundreds of runners on Team Stride for Stride have benefitted mentally from running life changing races like the Boston Marathon, the NYC Marathon, Falmouth, and local 5Ks. Running releases endorphins that improve our mood, and crossing the finish line explodes those endorphins into a major boost of confidence.
However, sometimes running isn't enough. All of our runners are immigrants who have endured the isolation of not knowing many (or any) people in their new country, they've experienced the stress of moving to this country, the challenge of not (initially) speaking the language, and now they are currently enduring anti-immigrant sentiment in the United States.
Since our founding in 2018, Stride for Stride has been a welcoming and safe community for runners from 26 different countries. We are a community whose team members have provided comfort for our runners experiencing debilitating depression, crushing defeat, and solace during one's darkest days.
Mental health has always been a major health issue for our team and we anticipate 2025 to be even more challenging. Therefore, in January 2025 we are launching Mental Health in Stride to provide free mental health therapy for anyone on the Team who needs it.
We are kicking the program off with a virtual Spanish speaking therapist who is already providing therapy to one runner on the team. Over time we hope to increase the number of therapists and offer both virtual and in-person sessions.
We're launching thanks to the support of Jackson Health System in Miami and thanks to private donors like you.
